DEVASTATED (Anger Management #1) by R.L. MATHEWSON

‘Over the past several months he’d become her best friend. He made her laugh, teased her, tormented her, made her feel protected; and those times when she struggled, he was there holding her and letting her know she was safe. For the first time in her life, she felt…Whole.’

Devastated by R.L Mathewson has shot itself right into our top reads by this Author. We absolutely loved it. Having been huge fans since 2011, we found Devastated to have the trademark humour of RL Mathewson which we love so much, but with a brand new mature and emotional twist to her writing. There’s no question that whilst easily recognisable as a Mathewson story, Devastated shows a new side to her. There is something very special about a slow burn romance where the characters start off as enemies, become friends and eventually fall for each other. It was pure emotional angst peppered with humour and raw vulnerability.

A FAERIE STORY by BARBARA ELSBORG

5 Wonderful stars! (M/M/M)

“Is that what you’re searching for? Happiness? Peace?”
“Aren’t we all?” I want to be needed, loved. That would make me happy, give me peace.

A Faerie Story by Barbara Elsborg is like three stories in one, we say that because the three male characters; Keagan, Aiden and Pascal had such immense stories to tell that it felt so comprehensive it was not just about one man’s journey. It was three journeys which culminated into one epic story. As per usual Barbara Elsborg throws down the gauntlet on how many agonising rounds of pounding your heart can take before it shatters. There is not one single character who doesn’t bring an emotional story to the mix. Rather, each character carries internal or external scars as well as burdens from their past, with one or two more horrific than the other. We cried so many tears.

Combining a story of paranormal and mystical settings with an intense love affair between three men is quite the feat. It felt so real and tangible, it was as if we were there. And oh how we wanted to be. We wanted to gather these three lads up and bring them home.

Interview with Erica Ridley, Author of Dukes, Actually

What can you tell us about your new release, Dukes, Actually?

The 12 Dukes of Christmas is a series of heartwarming Regency romps nestled in a picturesque snow-covered village. Most people flock to Christmas, England to celebrate the season in a winter wonderland. The Duke of Azureford, on the other hand, intends to use his holiday as a training ground. When he returns to London for the “real” Season—also known as the Marriage Mart—he’ll be socially awkward no more, and ready to court the perfect duchess. Once he enlists the help of the young lady next door in his endeavors, nothing goes to plan!

What or who inspired you to become an author?

I wanted to be a writer ever since I could read. I was told it wasn’t a very practical idea, so I ended up going to university to study International Business. I managed to stay in the corporate world for about ten years, before I decided that I absolutely had to try to become a writer, come what may, and I’m so glad I did! Throughout my life, my biggest champion was my grandmother, who was a librarian and a fellow lover of books.

What’s on your top 5 list for the best books you’ve ever read?

Oh, man. It’s always impossible for me to pick my favorite anything. A few of the authors without whom I might never be where I am today are: Johanna Lindsey (the first historical romance I ever read!) and Julie Garwood, whose historical romances I read over and over until the spines cracked. I loved the mix of historical romance and humor.

Say you’re the host of a literary talk show. Who would be your first guest? What would you want to ask?

I think for my first show, I’d interview librarians from all over the word. I lived in libraries as a child, and credit them with helping to foster my love of books. It would be fascinating to hear librarians talk about how they’ve matched books to readers, and what changes they’ve seen over the years in fiction and in readers.

What is a typical day like for you?

I love writing romance because it gives me the freedom to put complex characters in impossible situations and help them find love anyway. I also love the freedom of being able to work anywhere in the world I happen to be. I love to travel, for research and otherwise, and I love being able to take my characters with me.

What’s your favorite thing about writing?

I live in Costa Rica, which means either the sun or the parrots in the palm trees outside have me awake around dawn. I’m a morning person, so I like to write first thing. In the afternoons my husband and I might go for a walk in the rainforest, or take coffee on our balcony to watch the sunset.

What scene in Dukes, Actually was your favorite to write?

Hmm, that might be a toss-up between the opening sequence when the Duke of Azureford first comes to town and his carefully laid plans immediately go awry, and a little later in the story when he’s practicing his best flirtation techniques on Carole, resulting in more face-palms than fluttery bosoms. They have great chemistry together in all their scenes. Any scene with Azureford’s butler or Carole’s lady’s maid was also a blast to write.

Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?

“Try.” Everything I’ve ever achieved boils down to that one simple step. And then another. And then another. If there’s something you want to have, want to do, want to know; try. It just might come true!

Interview with Linnea Tanner, Author of Amulet’s Rapture

What can you tell us about your new release, Amulet’s Rapture?

Amulet’s Rapture is the third book in the Celtic historical fantasy, Curse of Clansmen and Kings. The e-book and paperback will be released on October 29th at Amazon, B&N, Apple Books, Kobo, and GooglePlay. The audiobook should be available at the beginning of 2020. The epic tale continues the odyssey of Catrin, a Druid warrior princess, and Marcellus—the great-grandson of Mark Antony.

Synopsis: Although Catrin is the rightful heir to the Celtic throne in Britannia, she is enslaved and lucky to be alive. The sole bright spot in her miserable new life is her forbidden lover Marcellus, the great-grandson of the famed Roman General Mark Antony. But his memories of Catrin and their secret marriage were erased by a dark Druid. Though Marcellus reunites with Catrin in Gaul and becomes her ally,  he questions the legitimacy of their marriage and hesitates to help her escape and retake her kingdom. If their forbidden love and alliance are discovered, her dreams of returning to her Celtic home with Marcellus will be shattered.

Click Linnea Tanner’s Books for more information on Amulet’s Rapture and other books in the series.

What or who inspired you to become an author?

Since childhood, I’ve devoured books on ancient civilizations and mythology which held women in high esteem. I created characters in my head based on legendary women such as the Amazon female warriors, Cleopatra, and Joan of Arc. Later in London, I was inspired by the statue of Boudicca, a warrior queen who united the Celtic tribal kingdoms in a rebellion and almost expelled their Roman conquerors in 61 AD. My childhood characters then came to life as I weaved Celtic mythology into the historical backdrop of 24 AD Rome and Britannia, where tribal kings hand-picked by Rome to rule are fighting each other for power.

What’s on your top 5 list for the best books you’ve ever read?

The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
The Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks
The Cider House Rules by John Irving
The Hunchback of Notre Dame by Victor Hugo

Say you’re the host of a literary talk show. Who would be your first guest? What would you want to ask?

I’d like to interview John Irving and ask what inspired him to write about strong, unconventional females in his books and controversial women’s issues.

What’s your favorite thing about writing?

I love creating characters and experiencing their stories in my head. Sometimes my characters surprise me and follow a different pathway from which I had originally planned for them. When I was close to finishing Amulet’s Rapture, I listened to the voice of my main character, Catrin, who insisted the book end differently than what I had originally outlined.

What is a typical day like for you?

The day starts out at the coffee shop where I spend time with my husband. This is sometimes followed by a walk around the lake. The remainder of the day is split between writing, part-time consulting, and catching on social media. Most of my productive reading and writing occurs at night when it’s most quiet. I can best focus on imagining a scene in my mind like a movie.

What scene in Amulet’s Rapture was your favorite to write?

My favorite scene is from the point of view of Marcellus, a nobleman banished to serve in the Roman legion. His memory of Catrin has been erased by a dark Druid. He struggles to understand his attraction to Catrin who is introduced as the young male slave to the legion’s commander. In the scene, Catrin shape-shifts into a white raven and lures Marcellus to a waterfall deep in the forest There, she changes back to her womanly figure. Not only is Marcellus shocked to discover Catrin is a woman with mystical powers, but he also learns they were secretly married in Britannia.

Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?

“Realize deeply that the present moment is all you ever have.”—Echart Tolle.

Interview with Kathryn Nolan, author of Wild Open Hearts

What can you tell us about your new release, Wild Open Hearts?

Wild Open Hearts is a steamy, slow-burn, opposites-attract romance (which is my favorite trope!) The book is about a hippie, vegan female billionaire whose tarnished reputation can only be saved by a grumpy, dog-rescuing, ex-biker. Wild Open Hearts is the third book in the Bluewater Billionaire series, written by me, Lucy Score, Claire Kingsley and Pippa Grant! These four interconnected standalones feature four female billionaires (and best friends) who live together in a funky, tropical enclave in Miami Beach.

What books are currently on your nightstand?

My Kindle is loaded up with an ARC of ‘The Arrival of You’ by B. Cranford (so good!). I read a ton of different genres so my nightstand is usually stacked with a mix of paperbacks – right now I’ve got ‘Gideon the Ninth’ by Tamsyn Muir; ‘Kushiel’s Dart’ by Jacqueline Carey; ‘The Bean Trees’ by Barbara Kingsolver and ‘Good Omens’ by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman (an old favorite and the best comfort read).

What advice would you give your teenage self?

Never stop writing. Your voice matters. And when you get a job offer to move from Philadelphia to Sacramento, California — make sure you take it. Your soul-mate lives there.

If you had an extra hour each day, how would you spend it?

More reading and more yoga!

What makes your world go round? Why does it bring you joy?

My husband, Rob, and I are big travelers. In 2017, we moved into our camper van and traveled all across the country (and Canada) for six months, staying in National Parks and living off the grid. That’s what brings us joy – being in nature, hiking, camping and traveling whenever we can. We adopted a rescue pup named Walter last year who is very active, so now our joy comes from exploring the great outdoors with our dog.

What scene in Wild Open Hearts was your favorite to write?

If I could say every scene, I would! I was obsessed with Luna and Beck from the beginning and loved their natural chemistry and the way they slowly worked to build trust. Their first kiss scene had been in my head for awhile (Fireworks, Mr. Mason) and that was a blast to write. But I have to say — the scene when Luna helps Beck interview Jimmy (who is adopting two dogs) was one of the most emotional things I’ve ever written. And it wasn’t a planned scene, it just spilled from my fingers.
