NO PRINCE by STEVIE J COLE & LP LOVELL

“Everything I did was because I loved you.”
“Then I don’t want your love because it hurts.”

No Prince by Stevie J Cole and L P Lovell was reminiscent of those bad boy romances we used to love. The type of stories that are just so messed up you can’t help but fall in love with them in all their ugly and raw hopelessness and fierce passion. These two Authors nailed the sense of despair, the gut wrenching fight to not repeat the mistakes of those who came before and that inherent survival instinct of those who must fight in life to stay above the waterline and keep breathing without drowning.

YOU DESERVE EACH OTHER by SARAH HOGLE

We LOVED this one!

“Relearning you has been the best thing that's ever happened to me.”

What a fantastic read with an interesting twist on the enemies to lovers’ trope! With Naomi and Nicholas hellbent on antagonising one another at every opportunity, it’s more a lovers to enemies to lovers’ theme and we lapped up all the funny, crazy, heartbreaking and beautifully emotional moments!

A little reminiscent War of the Roses/Mr and Mrs Smith (though without the violence!), we were completely dazzled by, and invested in the characters, the romance and the eventual outcome of Naomi and Nicholas’s story. Not to mention swooning crazily over Nicholas. This guy… we loved him! If you love the enemies to lover’s trope, you need to grab this book!

THE INFINITE ONION by ALICE ARCHER

‘He smiles that smile and kisses me for the first time, as if his smile was always supposed to be a kiss.’

The Infinite Onion by Alice Archer came as such a wonderful, passionately written surprise. As the title suggests this book was indeed a story built on layers of human emotions, human struggles, human behaviour as well as consequences. This is the first book we’ve read by this Author and we were in awe of the depth of story and character development. Right from the beginning, a steady drum of momentum built -ever so slowly- yet intricately written with an emphasis on the characters. We were intrigued and compelled by Grant and Oliver, as individuals as well as the importance of their mutually healing relationship. Their story of what shaped their ‘now’. Where one showed an apparent strength the other was at a place in life where everything seemed overwhelmingly insurmountable. However, the face we show others may not always be the face of our truth.

We truly loved this epic journey of a story which was purely character driven.  The infinite Onion was a powerful and relevant story which touched our hearts immensely.

GREAT and PRECIOUS THINGS by REBECCA YARROS

‘I wanted to paint this moment, to capture this exact feeling as I watched him at peace. A peace I knew would vanish the moment he opened his eyes and the world beat its way in. ‘

Great and Precious Things is our second book by Rebecca Yarros and once again, we were moved by her stellar writing in a heart wrenching, sincere and beautifully emotional story of family secrets, deep love, choices and second chances. Our hearts broke and soared in equal measure.

Great and Precious Things is a beautiful story, it’s a story that’s poignant, topical and told with so much heart. We can always feel when an author pours so much of themselves into a story, it jumps off the pages into our hearts and that certainly happened with this story. Told with a smattering of drama and family intrigue, we were present for every moment.

BLACKOUT by OLIVIA EVANS

“I feel like I know everything and absolutely nothing about him. I want him to tell me what happened for him to end up at our meetings, but I’m not willing to tell him my story. I’m a hypocrite.”

Blackout by Olivia Evans had a sombre tone with layers of complex human emotion. In the face of the #metoo campaign, this story is so relevant and important. We do not always know the face of the one who hurt us which intensifies the psychological trauma and fear of the unknown. Wanting to prevent further unbearable pain, barriers are built to keep the necessary distance. Daily tasks are on autopilot and isolation becomes a defence mechanism. The black of the dark becomes what haunts as well as the hiding place of comfort.

Gavin is keeping secrets. A man in a sea of women with one thing in common, he is drawn to Lonna, as Lonna is drawn to him. Both are walking the line between personal breakdown and survival. Yet an immediate bond is formed and in each other, they find a companion on the long road of healing. We felt everything Olivia Evans intended us to feel. And whilst we saw the main twist coming, it was still the emotional revelation which we needed and we felt the double-sided edge of closure, alongside Lonna.

MY MADDIE (Hades Hangmen #8) by TILLIE COLE

“I…I’m tired Maddie. I can’t do it anymore. I can’t breathe anymore. I can’t keep feeling the flames anymore…”

My Maddie by Tillie Cole made our hearts hurt so much. We weren’t expecting a full length emotional crying fest when we began reading. Maddie and Flame are one of our favourite Hangmen couples, and we have loved the tortured Flame right from the get go. His journey has broken our heart continuously, but this time…it annihilated it. A broken man who found calm and love with the sweet Maddie, who herself needs Flame to soothe the deep scars from her horrific cult life.

Being back with the Hangmen is always a wonderful treat, one which we will never tire of. Catching up with everyone, finding out what’s been happening and just spending time with them. Well, it’s like donning our cuts and being back with our biker family.

RELEASE by ALY MARTINEZ

‘To explain how I fell in love with Thea Hull, I’d need to go back to the beginning. Fair warning, this is not a story of hearts, flowers, and romance. That would call come later. But in the beginning, my love for Thea was born out of death, broken hearts, and desperation.’

Release by Aly Martinez is an achingly beautiful and tragic love story about two young lovers whose lives would be forever altered in one tragic night. It is an emotional standalone that tells a story of childhood friends to lovers, sacrifice and second chances.

YOU WERE THERE TOO by COLLEEN OAKLEY

'I think of the banal platitude: Love isn’t supposed to hurt. But really, if you’re doing it right, love hurts all the time.’

You Were There Too by Colleen Oakley is our first book by this Author, and what an impact she’s left on our hearts! We were intrigued by the synopsis, however, the story is so much more than what is hinted at. In fact, the synopsis really doesn’t touch the depth of the lives of Mia and Harrison. The emotional psychology and human behaviour in the face of tragedy was brilliantly written. It felt raw and painful to bear witness too. It left us heartbroken at times, yet it showcased strength, resilience, compassion and ultimately healing through love.
