'There's the flash of awareness, the darkness and the nothingness, and then there's just Birdie, calling me home.'

Well, weren't we just eagerly anticipating this book! After falling head over heels in love with A Very Bossy Christmas (one of our Top reads of 2020). We were suitably teased with Declan's brother, Hollywood actor Eddie's friendship with Birdie Beckett, the Archivist for the Getty, in and couldn't wait for this book! Once again, we've fallen in love with a Kayley Loring romance. A Very Friendly Valentine's Day, was a sweet, sexy, and very funny friends to lover's rom-com. A hot Hollywood actor and a beautiful, sweet nerdy girl. Talk about swoon, and we loved it!

There was so much to love about this story. The train trip provided the perfect vehicle (pardon the pun) for their relationship, the text messages between Eddie and Birdie were an absolute hoot, as was the banter between Eddie and his brother Declan and their Irish cousins. The comedic timing blended beautifully with the romance of the story and the passion provided many Kindle fanning moments.

MORENO’S: (Moreno Brothers) MORENO BROTHERS SEQUEL by ELIZABETH REYES

‘Not only was he Isa’s first choice – he was her only choice.’

Well, what can we say other than oh wow what a trip down memory lane! We fell in utter love with the Moreno brothers back in 2011 and remember this series with such love so it’s no surprise that when Elizabeth Reyes released Isabella and Alejandro’s story, which is where it all began, we were excited to revisit this memorable series and family.

From the onset, we knew that theirs was a soulmate romance that withstood the test of time and circumstance. They had to overcome so much in order to be together and live safely in the arms of one another, as they had wished for since childhood. Only a love of the truest, persevering and strongest form can withstand the test of time and separation.

MUSES & MELODIES (Hush Note #3) by REBECCA YARROS

What a series! What a finale! Standing ovation!

‘Loving him was a force so strong there was nothing I could do to protect myself.’

Heartache, emotion, passion, angst, Rock star swagger and some serious swoon. These are just some of the things Rebecca Yarros served up in Muses & Melodies, and boy didn’t we just eat it up! Nixon certainly gave us some heart stopping moments. His pain was a raw, palpable beast and we felt every single piece of it. It was as though we were standing on the precipice with Nixon, hearts braced in nervous anticipation as we wondered if he would once again slide into oblivion. If only Nixon would believe the love that surrounded him from his band mates. This complicated man stole our hearts completely!

Rebecca Yarros beautifully blended forbidden romance, small town, rock star and angst into an edgy slow burn romance with some hate to love in the mix. With these elements, and the superb emotionally raw prose of this author it was bound to be a hit!

RIFTS & REFRAINS (Hush Note #2) by DEVNEY PERRY

'You were supposed to let go when your first love ended. You were supposed to look at the past and smile at the memory.
You weren't supposed to hold it so close that it wound into your very existence, making every moment impossible to forget.'

You know what? Rifts & Refrains might just be one of our favourite books by this author to date. Devney Perry takes the small town second chance romance theme she does so perfectly and infuses it beautifully with the single Dad and rock star trope, bringing the warmth and love we yearn for in her stories. We absolutely loved it, and we’re loving this series as a whole.

If you love small town second chance, if you love rock stars and if love single Dad stories, this book will have you squealing with delight! Devney Perry delivers all the warmth, wit and familiarity we love about her stories. We felt as though we were a part of Quinn and Graham’s families, and once again, we revelled in taking in the exquisite Montana landscape Devney Perry so famously and vividly feeds into our imaginations.

OUT OF LOVE by JEWEL E ANN

5 - 'One of our FAVOURITE READS THIS YEAR' - Stars!! How do we move on from this book? Be sure to 1Click this one! What a read!

“Feel it?”
“What, Liv?”
“Wanting something so much it hurts.”

Jewel E. Ann wrote one of our favourite series in Jack and Jill, so we cannot tell you how excited we were to read this standalone spin-off, which features Jackson’s daughter, Livy.  This Author is a magnificent writer and this series is perfect proof of that. Jewel E. Ann manages to thread angst, heat, love and suspense into one hell of a fantastic story that has that underlying fierceness and sarcasm we love so much. Jack and Jill was an epic love story with Out of Love being the icing on top of an extremely emotionally layered cake of outstanding tastiness. We were gripped completely and emotionally invested from the first page 'till the last. Shedding so many tears, needing copious freezer time, and laughing out loud.

We wanted -no needed- this story to never end. Never. We finished Out of Love and wanted to start from the beginning again. We fell in love, deep deep love with Livy and with Wylder. Their story is compelling, dark, funny, sweet, hot! and so addictive. We felt like we were coming home amongst friends with Jackson and Jessica, needing more, wanting to catch up and spend time with them. We could never be done with this series. We love when our emotions are pulled through the wringer, we love when we have no idea where a story is going, we love uncovering a character; layer by layer. And we love when we laugh out loud and cry big fat ugly tears in the same breath.

BREAKING SOUTH: A Turners Artists Rocker Novel (The Turner Artists Rocker Series #3) by Alyson Santso

“I’ll stay and fight forever, the entire damn world, if she wants me to.”

Breaking South is the third book in The Turner Artists Rocker Series by Alyson Santos and all the books can be read as standalone’s. We’ve loved every single book in this series and this latest instalment won our hearts over with its melancholy and sombre undertones. The beauty of the prose, the vivid emotional heartbreak and the inner struggle to find a true self, locked down behind a façade. It felt bleak and dark with sporadic rays of hopeful light-gathering impetus to breakthrough. Oh, how we willed the light of hope to breakthrough. For the storm to be calmed and peace to find its place.

We went through the spectrum of emotions reading Breaking South, from morose, to despondent to hopeful and joyous. Another great story from Alyson Santos!

LIGHT MY FIRE (Sex. Rock. Mafia #1) by JESSICA RUBEN

‘He isn’t beautiful or handsome. Nico is too rugged to be described with those words. He’s dangerous, chiselled and raw. He is physically everything a man should be. Tall, broad, and lethal.’

Light My Fire by Jessica Ruben had everything we love in a mafia romance. It was gritty, dark and bold. It was passionate and enticing. It also highlighted the realities of war and oppression, family, love and loyalty. It highlighted the work of freedom fighters.  It was brilliantly written and had that ultimate suave bad arse mafia boss we love so much, as well as a sweet but feisty heroine! The way in which this slow burn romance was written was on point. Especially to be able to build the foundation of love in childhood, which can so easily go wrong. Jessica Ruben managed to build a connection so early on which grows and matures naturally. We fell in love with falling in love.
