EVEN IF IT HURTS by MARNI MANN

5 gut-wrenching stars! OMG! What an angsty and emotional read!

‘It was love. And in that moment, I knew without a doubt in my mind that I couldn’t hurt this man.’

Even If It Hurts is one of those books that we have an intense love/hate relationship with. The story both made us incredibly angry yet full of love. Frustrating, beautiful, unjust and filled with love. Marni Mann is such a wonderful storyteller who cares so deeply for her characters, ensuring we fall in love with them thus feeling the incredible pain and the intense love they have for each other. It’s a testament to her quality of writing that we both loved and hated this story. That it made us cry real tears.

When you are unable to stop thinking of the story, trying to rationalise the actions of the characters whilst swinging on a pendulum from anger to understanding; from love to hate, you know she nailed it. We may not like it, but we lived it till the point of complete immersion.

THE DAY THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING by CATHERINE MILLER

‘Sometimes goodbyes weren’t hard when it meant leaving a place that had left you broken.’

Catherine Miller is a new to us, author and in The Day That Changed Everything, she tells a story of second chances, friendship and self-discovery, about finding hope and happiness after one of the most heartbreaking and painful events changed her life forever.

The story is emotionally told from a ‘then’ and ‘now’ perspective as we learn the last twenty-four hours of Andy’s life throughout the book, and also why Tabitha is carrying so much guilt, and we really enjoyed our first taste of Catherine Miller's prose -  this author certainly knows how to weave a sweet and emotional story with lots of heart. More a story of self-discovery, there is a tiny thread of romance that warmed made our hearts skip a beat.

REVEREND OF SILENCE by PAMELA SPARKMAN

5 magnificent stars!

“Lord, am I old enough to have a broken heart? Because I think Lucy Hallison broke mine tonight.”…And something in me believed she probably always would.

The Reverend of Silence is one of the most stunningly written coming of age stories we’ve read in a long time. Pamela Sparkman transported us back to where this story begins -1814- with her words and we were enthralled from the very first page.

A wonderful depiction of a time in history written so powerfully, yet exquisite in its vivid imagery and intense emotion. Reverend of Silence is a work of art as a historical fictional romance which showcases the judgement of society. The romance was breath-taking, the struggles and condemnation frustrating, yet it was also inspirational with its human perseverance and unwavering hope for a better future for those we love. We not only cried at the beauty, but we also cried at the injustice of it all. Pamela Sparkman is a magnificent writer and we cannot adequately express our overwhelming love for Sam and Lucy’s story which is one of beautiful friendships, survival and love.

RELEASE by ALY MARTINEZ

‘To explain how I fell in love with Thea Hull, I’d need to go back to the beginning. Fair warning, this is not a story of hearts, flowers, and romance. That would call come later. But in the beginning, my love for Thea was born out of death, broken hearts, and desperation.’

Release by Aly Martinez is an achingly beautiful and tragic love story about two young lovers whose lives would be forever altered in one tragic night. It is an emotional standalone that tells a story of childhood friends to lovers, sacrifice and second chances.

YOU WERE THERE TOO by COLLEEN OAKLEY

'I think of the banal platitude: Love isn’t supposed to hurt. But really, if you’re doing it right, love hurts all the time.’

You Were There Too by Colleen Oakley is our first book by this Author, and what an impact she’s left on our hearts! We were intrigued by the synopsis, however, the story is so much more than what is hinted at. In fact, the synopsis really doesn’t touch the depth of the lives of Mia and Harrison. The emotional psychology and human behaviour in the face of tragedy was brilliantly written. It felt raw and painful to bear witness too. It left us heartbroken at times, yet it showcased strength, resilience, compassion and ultimately healing through love.

THE BROMANCE BOOK CLUB (Bromance Book Club Series #1) by LYSSA KAY ADAMS

'A lonely marriage is the worst kind of lonely there is.'

The first rule of Bromance book club…you guessed it; you don’t talk about the goings-on in the boys’ Bookclub outside the walls of the inner sanctum. It’s a secret place for men to read romance novels to better ‘understand’ their wives, their wants, their needs and to try and emotionally connect with their other halves when all seems lost. And Gavin Scott is most definitely lost.

FOR EMERY (For You #4) by J NATHAN

‘I’m gonna be your biggest fan, Jordan Grady. You just wait and see.’

We’ve adored each book in the For You Series by J Nathan. They’re stories of love and friendship and growth, and in each book, we witness the characters grow and find love, and in the case of For Emery, we discover a sweet friend to lover’s romance. Each book in the series focuses on a different couple and can be read as standalone’s although characters from other books do make appearances throughout each book.

There is a serious nature woven into For Emery that is topical and poignant, yet this is predominantly a story of childhood friends, first love, family and friendships. And added bonus was catching snippets of past characters from For Finlay, For Forrester and For Crosby as their sports careers and love lives prosper and their dreams are fulfilled.
