A GIFT IN DECEMBER by JENNY GLADWELL

“I’m not completely sorry we both had our hearts broken. Not if it meant us ending up here.”

A gift in December by Jenny Gladwell is one of the most scenically beautiful stories we’ve read in a while. This historical fictional romance, which is mainly set in the snowy mountains of Norway, had such a vivid atmosphere we felt the cold winter nights, we tasted the snowflakes on our tongues and we breathed in the crystal cold fresh air. We have a new bucket list destination!

We absolutely loved the mystery, the setting and the romance of this story. It held us captivated from the first till the last page. From a dreary and rainy November in London, to a snowy and beautiful Norway, we became engrossed in a story of love, hope, memories and intrigue – focusing on a moment of history still honoured today.

MOTI ON THE WATER by LEYLAH ATTAR

‘Alex had a dream. He had talent and drive and ambition. Every night, under the light of the moon, he cast his net toward the heavens to catch the stars.’

Moti on the Water by Leylah Attar was just hilarious, sweet and so rich with lessons in love, life and different cultures. It really read like those romantic comedies we love to watch and this book is a prime candidate to be made into a movie. Leylah Attar grabbed us from the get-go with a quirky family dynamic, an adorable heroine, a passionate hero and an engaging storyline which, whilst quite predictable, had us furiously turning the pages with a huge smile on our faces. What a wonderful summer read on the beach or by the pool! Just make sure, if like Moti you can’t swim, that you wear a swim vest as you’ll be swept away in the pages.

Leylah Attar writes with such beauty and poise. Her words flawlessly transport you into her world, where the scenery and food serve as their own rightful and stunning characters. Its peace and tranquillity forming the landscape for the utter chaos of family relationships.

THE GUY ON THE RIGHT by KATE STEWART

Loved this! Ahhh the romance!

We met at the same crossroads and that, in and of itself, makes her valuable to me as a friend more than anything else.’

We love Kate Stewart, so we were beyond excited to pick up The Guy on the Right. This is one of those times we can say that hand on heart this book is exactly what it claims to be, a true friends to lovers romance. It is without question one of our favourites in this trope. What we loved about it was that it was all about the characters, it was ‘simple’ in story yet at the same time it packed such a strong punch because in its simplicity pure magic was achieved. It never felt over-written or over-dramatic, rather, it felt easy and flawless. It felt real, specifically in its honesty of friendship and romance.

We cannot explain how much we loved Laney and Theo, both were written with such care and attention to detail, that we felt we knew them almost from the get-go. Their insecurities, their hang-ups, their hopes, and their dreams. Their needs, desires, and wants. We understood their friendships and their relationships. What we especially loved about these two characters is the shift from what is considered the ‘norm’ in romance novels. Kate Stewart gave us a male character that was portrayed in such a manner that we recognised him, not from other novels but from real life.

ALL GROWN UP by VI KEELAND

Now Live!
"The truth is, you can never have the right feelings at the wrong time because there is never a wrong time for the right person."

If you’re in search for the perfect summer read, look no further than All Grown Up by Vi Keeland, a  sweet and sexy forbidden age gap romance that will fill those summer days and make you swoon. The setting of Montauk adds to the ambiance by providing those lazy hazy summer feelings. Not to mention, you're about to fall in love with Ford Donovan!

Vi Keeland takes the age gap theme and draws attention to the stigma placed upon the older woman and the younger man scenario. Whilst the reverse age gap is readily accepted, many women still battle with perception and acceptance, and Val's conflicting emotions were perfectly highlighted in a story that's as much about love as it is self-discovery, about believing in yourself and trusting your heart.

THE REST OF THE STORY by SARAH DESSEN

“If life is a journey, wouldn’t you rather be the person behind the wheel than the one just being carried along?”

From the minute we started reading The Rest of the Story we were immediately transported back in time. It’s been some years, pre blog days, since we’ve lived between the pages of a Sarah Dessen book and boy, we’ve missed her. This book felt like coming home, wrapping ourselves up in the sweet, relatable characters synonymous with Sarah Dessen’s stories.

There was much to love about this story and it’s something Sarah Dessen does extremely well. This author takes her time allowing the reader to become a part of the story and connect with the characters.  The core of this story is family and friendship in all it’s complicated glory.

THE FRIENDS WE KEEP by JANE GREEN

‘Who do we have if we don’t have each other?’

The Friends We Keep by Jane Green is an epic story of life and a friendship cemented at University between three friends from different walks of life. We met Maggie, a sweet and naïve middle-class girl, Evvie an immigrant English-American former child actress and Topher an adorable American asexual lad. The friendship these three forge felt real and relatable. Each had their own story, hang-ups and dreams.

The angst level is extreme, the subjects covered heart-breaking and realistic. Tragedy, secrets and betrayals are rife, as a strong friendship is threatened by life, actions and personal emotions. The Friends We Keep goes full circle from University days till the characters are in their fifties. It shines a light on the fact that friends are the family you chose and that these bonds can be stronger than blood. The Friends We Keep is set in both the US and UK through the years which served as a character in its own right and we loved that aspect.

JANE DOE by VICTORIA HELEN STONE

5 brilliant stars!!!!

'I've never killed anyone. I'm not that kind of sociopath. But you never know. Desperate times…'

We’re always on the hunt for stories that offer something a little different, so if you’re like us and thrive on unique stories, then you MUST read Jane Doe. It was FANTASTIC! A suspenseful, wickedly amusing story with captivating mature writing that introduced us to a complex, funny and confounding character that is thirty-year-old, Jane Doe, a self-diagnosed sociopath with an acerbic wit and a vivid imagination. Jane Doe was one deliciously wicked and taunting tale we devoured from start to finish.

Jane Doe is a brilliantly written, captivating, intriguing, wickedly funny and somewhat deliciously dark story of revenge. Nothing is off limits in Jane Doe. Trust us, you'll devour this book!
